| Custom Programs
Custom programming is generally used to provide the actual
screens a user sees while using a program. This could be in the form of a data entry
screen to add or retrieve information from a database, or a login screen to ensure every
person using the system is an authorized user.
The advantage of course is that we have complete control over
how the program looks, and what it does. Using current generation languages, this can be
accomplished in significantly less time than was required in the past.
As an example, consider the experience of one of our first
clients.
Case Study: XXX Medical Labs
Our client had an expanding medical imaging practice
operating between three cities in Ontario. Each day patients were seen in one of the
clinics, and medical images, saved on paper or film were sent by dedicated courier to a
central site for diagnosis. This was an expensive proposition which significantly affected
the bottom line costs of the business.
To solve this problem, GWS created a custom application that
acquired the data from the medical equipment, and allowed it to be transported across
telephone lines to the central site for review. In addition this data could be sent
several time a day, and the results transmitted back to the clinic via the same method. So
not only were costs decreased, but the quality of the service increased also, with
examination results often being returned the same day the patient was seen.
This system has been in place for several years now, and
continues to provide a cost and service advantage to our client.
